In 1851, J. Parker Whitney hiked through this peaceful valley toward the rough and tumble gold fields of Auburn. Stopping to rest under the cool umbrella of a spacious oak, the young man promised he would return to settle the land and raise his family. He kept his promise, and by 1870 he and his brothers owned and operarted the 22,000 acre Whitney Ranch. Tours of the ranch included a scenic carriage ride over twelve bridges and along a tree lined road called Eight Mile Drive. The Whitney Ranch has now evolved into a golfing experience unparalleled in Northern California.
Catta Verdera Country Club is nestled among the rolling hills and woodlands of Lincoln, California and offers one of the finest tests of golf. To retain the area's natural beauty, the course has been "coaxed" from a stunning 335 acre valley, complete with gentle streams, natural oaks, buckeyes, Ponderosa pines and granite outcroppings. By enhancing the natural lay of the land, Catta Verdera is as visually captivating as it is challenging.
Designed by Richard Phelps, Catta Verdera boasts not only spectacular natural beauty, but also provides the golfer with tremendous challenge. A poor shot is penalized while a well-executed shot is rewarded, and a well played round will be memorable indeed. To enjoy Catta Verdera, the golfer can relax and feel comfortable in the peaceful surroundings or indulge in the challenge of championship golf. Catta Verdera is the best of both worlds and offers a one-of-a-kind golfing experience!
